Emergency
What emergency locksmiths actually do
An emergency locksmith handles lock and key problems that can't wait for an appointment: you can't get in, you can't lock up, or someone could get in who shouldn't. Knowing what's covered helps you call the right person and describe the problem clearly.
The situations they handle
- Home lockouts – keys inside, keys lost, or a lock that has stopped turning.
- Car lockouts – keys in the cabin or trunk, or a fob that has died.
- Business lockouts – a staff member with the only key, or a jammed storefront lock.
- Broken keys – a key snapped inside a door lock or ignition.
- Lost or stolen keys – especially if your address was on the keyring.
- Break-in damage – a forced door, broken strike plate or damaged cylinder.
Beyond opening the door
Getting you back in is usually only half the job. If a lock was forced, it may not secure properly again. If keys were stolen, the old keys still work until the lock is rekeyed or replaced. A good technician will explain the options and price each one before doing it.
What they won't do
A legitimate locksmith checks ID and proof that you live at the address or own the vehicle. They won't open a property for someone who can't show a connection to it. If that feels inconvenient at the time, remember it's the same check that protects your home.
Emergency or next-day?
Some problems feel urgent but can wait: a sticky lock that still works, a spare key you'd like, or an upgrade you've been meaning to do. Booking those at a convenient time often costs less and gives you more choice of hardware. Real emergencies are the ones where you can't get in, can't lock up, or someone's safety is involved.
How to describe the problem
When you call, say what is locked (front door, car, office), what kind of lock it is if you know, whether keys are lost or just inside, and your exact location. The more precise the description, the closer the estimate will be. In Monrovia, the emergency locksmith page explains the call-to-arrival steps, and the price list shows where costs start.
